Oh No! Not my Makeup!

The night before a party or prom, your blush goes to pieces, your lipstick breaks or your mascara turns out to be as dry as the Sahara. What you’ll need:

Cracked makeup
Rubbing Alcohol (70%)
Spatula/Spoon
Sponge/Blush Brush

Step 1: Pour in some rubbing alcohol

This method also works for also works for eyeshadow and bronzer! Make sure you gather up all the pieces of broken makeup and place them wherever they came from (most likely a compact). Then, pour in a little rubbing alcohol, enough so that the powdery blush soaks all of it in. Don’t flood the compact with the rubbing alcohol, that’s definitely too much.

Step 2: Reshaping the blush

Once the blush has turned into a soft, pasty mixture, use a spatula or the back part of a spoon to smooth the jagged pieces together. Think of spreading peanut butter with a knife over a piece of taste. You want the same, silky smooth look so make sure you spread it evenly. You probably should do this over a napkin because it can get pretty messy.

Step 3: Polishing up and drying

When you’ve finished smoothing it out, you can leave it to dry overnight or if you’re really short on time, use a hairdryer. After it’s finished drying, use a sponge or a blush brush to iron out the last few uneven ridges in the dried powder. Voila, your blush has now had a makeover!

What you’ll need:

Broken lipstick
Rubber or latex gloves
Ziploc Bag
Lighter
Refrigerator

Step 1: Chilling the lipstick

Before doing this step, put on some gloves to keep your hands clean. Take the lipstick that snapped from the tube (called the bullet) and place it on top of a Ziploc bag. Then place the Ziploc bag, with the lipstick on top, in the freezer and let it cool for about ten minutes.

Step 2: Welding the bullet

Look at the lipstick tube and bullet to see where the break happened and then piece them together like two puzzle pieces. Next, use a lighter to melt the end of the lipstick (it should only require a couple seconds) until it’s softer and looks more shiny. If you’re uncomfortable with fire or unsure with a lighter, please ask your parents to help.

Step 3: Piecing it together

As quickly as possible, press the hot end of the bullet into the lipstick tube and hold it there firmly for a few seconds. If all has gone well, the broken piece should fuse together and your lipstick should be whole. To seal the deal, stick the lipstick into the freezer again for ten minutes. When it’s done, paint on a bright coat on your lips to check that it works.

Dry Mascara

What you’ll need:

Dry Mascara
Rewetting eye drops

Step 1: Checking the mascara

Because mascara goes near the eyes, you want to be doubly sure that it’s not going to infect your eye. If the mascara has dried because it’s past its expiration date, you really shouldn’t use it even if you can moisturize it. If it’s not past the expiration date, wash your hands and then test some of the mascara against a patch of skin on them. If your skin gets a rash, DO NOT use the mascara but if nothing happens, you’re free to fix it up.

Step 2: Rewetting the mascara

Get the eye drops, they should be rewetting eye drops, not Visine nor a red-reducing solution. Open the mascara tube and then drip in about 8-10 drops and then cap it again. Give a few shakes and let it settle for a few seconds.

Step 3: Finishing up

Take the mascara wand ¼ out of the tube and gently stir the mascara around. After you finish that, your mascara should be wet again and unclumpy!
