6 Bath Potions You Need To Add To Your Water

After a long, stressful day at school, it always feels really nice to read a book while taking a hot bath. The warm water loosens tense muscles and you can just soak your troubles away in a cloud of steam. You can make your bath even more relaxing and healthy by adding some natural “potions” to the water. Don’t use too many commercial bubble bath solutions because the fragrances could irritate your skin. Instead, why not try some of these items on the list? These bath potions are not as spectacular as some of Severus Snape’s brews but they’re still pretty beneficial!

Ahhhh, Hot Baths!

1. Epsom or Sea Salts

Don’t go putting regular, household salt in the water! Buy some packets of epsom or sea salt to use instead. If you had a physically-taxing day or are sore from a workout, these salts will be your savior! When your body is in the water, it will soak up the magnesium the salts have released and magnesium is great for soothing muscles and helps regenerate skin cells. Just don’t go diving around the bathtub.

2. Milk and Honey

It might sound gross but this is actually how Egyptians used to bathe and you can see from their carvings how nice their skin looked! Milk makes the skin soft and smooth the lactic acid in it exfoliates the skin. Honey soothes irritated skin and also smoothes and firms up the skin so you might want to take a milk and honey bath when you’re extra itchy or have come down with a sunburn. You’ll forget all about the grossness by then!

3. Peppermint Oil

You won’t have to wait until Christmas to smell the fresh scent of peppermint. Now you have an excuse to buy a bottle of peppermint oil so tell your parents that peppermint has a lot of restorative properties. For example, if you keep falling asleep in class, sniff a peppermint and see awake you’ll feel. In the bathwater, peppermint oil relaxes and soothes your tired body besides infusing it with energy. The bonus is that your bath will smell really good!

4. Green Tea

There’s a reason why many people like to enjoy their day with a fresh cup of hot, green tea. Green tea is energizing, mood stabilizing and beneficial for the skin as it is full of antioxidants. Antioxidants are great for the skin and act as an anti-ager, making the skin look younger. Drop some green tea leaves into your bath and give it a swirl, you’ll feel like you’re in a giant, fragrant teacup.

5. Sage

You’ve probably smelled this savory herb in pastas before but you probably didn’t know you could use it in a bath. Sage has wonderful effects such as being uplifting, calming and astringent. Individuals with back acne or oily skin should put use sage when bathing as it helps clear up the complexion all over your body.

6. Bath Fizzies

You can either buy a bath fizzy from local store and make some of your own, there are a lot of tutorials online. Bath Fizzies release a combination of oils that are good for the skin and they also release quite a few bubbles and colors. Coupled with the nice scent they have, bath fizzies should make for a fun and healthy bath experience. Just make sure you get a bath fizzy that doesn’t irritate the skin or cause an allergic reaction.
