She has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and even been named one of America’s most powerful and influential women by Forbes. Why does she have all of these titles? Well, one reason is that she has contributed so much money to charities around the world that she has is considered one of the greatest African-American philanthropists. Her open-minded, genuine and emotional TV show has revolutionized the tabloid talk show style and inspired many to action. And who doesn’t love a rags to riches story? Oprah’s harrowing life story about her rise to fame from poverty encourages many to never give up and to relentlessly pursue their dreams. These are only a few of the reasons why Oprah Winfrey is regarded as a goddess and beacon of hope to many. We’ll give you a few more reasons on why she is an inspiration to us all and why she is loved by millions.

While many celebrities let their fame and popularity go to their heads, Oprah has stayed grounded and uses her fame for charitable causes. A noteworthy example is how she used her talk show to draw awareness to incidences of terrible animal cruelty. Some would stop there but Oprah even embarked on a cruelty-free vegan diet to prove her dedication to eradicating the torture of animals. Her passionate defense of helpless animals shows how truly kind and empathetic she is. We should all strive to emulate Oprah’s level of love and compassion for all living things.

Once again, Oprah’s warmth and affection has humbled us all. LGBT still is a hot topic today with many still hating and fearing lesbian and gay individuals. However, a few years ago, hatred and violence towards the LGBT community was even greater with members of the group afraid to speak out for fear of violent retaliation. But ever since Oprah began openly supporting lesbian and gays and featuring famous homosexual celebrities on her show, there has been a gradual increase in tolerance. In fact, many credit Oprah’s ardent support as one of the reasons why there is more LGBT inclusion in mainstream media.

Education is an essential foundation for any child’s life. Through education, you learn essential skills of reading, writing and communication and you also learn skills that will help you find a job in the future. Unfortunately, good education and schools are not provided for every child so many can’t gain essential knowledge and skills to help them. What’s wonderful about Oprah is that she understands this and that education should be a basic right all humans have. Again, she showcases her generosity by overseeing the construction of a school in South Africa for girls and even better, the girls who attend don’t have to pay a dime. Through this action, Oprah demonstrates how she hasn’t forgotten her poor beginnings and how she is genuinely willing to help those less fortunate.

4. Oprah’s Angel Network

We always knew that Oprah is the guardian angel of many. Always a champion for the rights and welfare for the less fortunate and poor, Oprah proved true to her generous and giving nature by setting up Oprah’s Angel Network in 1998. This charity organization was founded on Oprah’s wish for people around the world to be inspired into performing selfless acts of good for others. It has provided funds for countless, poverty-stricken children and helped set up schools in areas that badly need them. This powerful wave of altruism and education was inspired from a true angel, Oprah Winfrey.
