We’ve all heard the advice about getting garments for your closet that you can “mix and match.” But what, exactly, does that mean? Here are some easy-to-follow tips.
Learn about color combinations that “go” together. Ah, color theory! Don’t worry…it’s not as hard as it sounds. It involves knowing the colors in the color wheel and the three main color schemes: analogous colors (these colors “live” next to each other on the color wheel), complementary colors (these colors live opposite each other), and monochromatic colors (different shades of the same color).
For a GREAT visual explanation, check out this post from Lauren Conrad. Once you get familiar with the color wheel, mixing and matching (from a color standpoint anyway) will be easy peasy!
Shop accordingly. Know the basic colors you have in your wardrobe. Then when you shop, think about what garments will “work” with the ones you already have. The goal is to create several different outfits by mixing and matching the basic pieces you already own. That’s what makes for an awesome closet!
Experiment, experiment, experiment. Becoming a mixing-and-matching ninja doesn’t happen overnight. It takes practice. Try on different outfits in front of a mirror. Don’t forget to add in accessories, too!

Just 2day I was trying to match a navy blue shirt (Ann Taylor company!!!) with a navy blue skirt, but the colors just practically CLASHED. I would LOVE to learn how to clash colors without really, …well… clashing colors, but my mom always is kind of picky about that.
Oooo! Color, where? Where? He He! Just kidding!
As you can see, I LOVE color, and same with fashion.
So when it comes to mix and matching colors , strait away, I just draw a big, old heart around it!
YOU CAN BE STYLISH AT DANCE, too. today I went to dance and I wore jean shorts and an orange, very comfy top.

Sorry, but I don’t like mismatched - no offense - I think it’s too similar to clashing colors. But if it’s your style, go ahead! It’s just not my style.

You don’t exactly have to “mismatch” colors. You can just take your pieces of clothing and hold them beside each other to see if they look good. Even if you don’t think they will go together you may be surprised. Then you won’t mismatch.

I’m pretty good because I always wear jeans and either pink, purple, blue, and then black or white. My colors usually match so I have no problem
Match lights with lights and darks with darks. Doy!
Not necessarily. Jeans, for example, go well with light colors too!
Exactly! I SO agree!
