“Sorry Mom, you’re not my fashion inspiration.”

March 20, 2013

“Yay!” to you for fostering an independent spirit in your daughters!

Too bad that often means that your tween daughters don’t look to you anymore for fashion inspiration.

We asked the FPgirl community, via the Style Mag, “What first made you interested in fashion?” Over 4,000 girls responded, and the majority of the girls said “Me (I’m my own inspiration)”. Very cool.

Poll: Girls, what first made you interested in fashion?

What do you think of the girls’ responses?

I think it’s awesome! Being inspired by your self indicates a healthy self esteem + independence - helping protect girls against the negative effects of today’s fashion industry’s messages. I think an overall rise in DIY and REUSE/Recycle mentality is creating an environment for girls to be inspired to create their own looks - and with your easy to use website + affordability, we can LET them!!!

I think it’s awesome! Identifying themselves as their own inspiration indicates a healthy dose of self esteem + confidence - which will help girls resist/reject today’s fashion industry’s unhealthy depiction of “beauty”.

I believe the exploding DIY movement, fueled by interest + social media, is creating an environment that allows more children the freedom + access to GET creative (which builds self esteem, confidence AND problem solving skills) and your site’s ease of use + affordability allow us moms to Indulge + reward that creativity - allowing them to WEAR their designs - further boosting their self esteem and self-confidence. You are doing much more than sewing clothes - you are helping creation a generation of strong, confident, critical thinking women - who will lead us all to greatness.

And it all starts with a single click!
