All about APRIL at FPgirl! (CEO Letter)

Are you ready for April!? Our CEO is ready at FPgirl! We’re beyond excited to have our own Sarah McIlroy share her FPgirl April love on our Parents Connection blog! 

It’s an exciting time for all of us here at FPgirl: we’re peeling off our winter layers, getting ready for our summer photoshoot, and we’ve even introduced some amazing, new girl-inspired graphics.

As a girl, I recall an incredible sense of pride and satisfaction in wearing something created from my imagination (since I was one of the lucky ones with a mother who could sew, we spent hours modifying patterns, selecting fabrics, trims & embellishments). That was such a special time for me, and I believe those experiences laid the foundation of my belief that if you can dream it, you can do it.  So, dream BIG!

That feeling has stayed with me and continues to inspire me in my everyday life. After my oldest daughter (5 at the time) came to me with a handful of sketches, I realized girls everywhere want to be fashion designers.  I dreamt of building a community for girls where they could interact and engage around fashion and also design clothes and have them produced to wear.

Now that the FPgirl community has grown to over 700,000 members, I’m thrilled that we’re providing a way for even more girls to share that feeling, and wear clothes and designs THEY’VE helped us create! Your girls influence our product direction every day. They tell us what is cool (and are very vocal about what is NOT!). They share insights about what it’s like to be a girl in today’s world.  We want to empower your girls through creativity, self-expression and social interaction.  These girls want their voices to be heard and we’re ready to listen.

It’s this essence – helping girls be creative, express themselves and share positive experiences in a fun, safe environment – that is at the heart of FashionPlaytes and FPgirl.com.

So as we kick off the month of April and celebrate the start of spring, I wanted to share a Manifesto we wrote to inspire everyone here at FPgirl to “Dream Big” – we hope it resonates with you and your girls!!

Express yourself. Be original. Proud. What you wear reflects your spirit. Be creative. Have FUN! You are hip. Empowered. Live LIFE like the beautiful, confident person you are. Be strong. Share YOUR style. Be your own designer.

Encourage others. Be respectful. Earn respect. Don’t settle. Push yourself.

Embrace your unique style and foster creativity. Have FUN. CREATE your own brand and share it with the world. It’s not about the products in our lives—it’s about the memories and stories we create. Appreciate those moments.

Open your heart, mind and soul to new things. Imagine. Dare to dream. Dreams come true when you believe and work hard. Passion makes the world a better place. Dance. Game. Sketch. Do what you LOVE! Seize every opportunity and enjoy every moment. Life is short. Design your reality.
