“Not-So-Classic” Classic Holiday Family Movies
It’s the holiday season and what better time to cozy on up with the family and watch some holiday Christmas movies? Sure, we’ve got your classic TV shows like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Charlie Brown’s Christmas and Frosty the Snowman, but if you want to settle in for some of the more recent holiday movies, here’s a list you’ll love to watch with your family. Some, you may have never seen, or you may have watched these a dozen times already, but that’s why they’re considered classics! Here is a list we’ve compiled of great holiday movies everyone in your family will enjoy again and again this season!
A Christmas Story - PG (1983)
Ralphie wants a Red Rider B.B. gun for Christmas but everyone says he’ll shoot his eye out. This is the perfect Christmas movie to watch over and over again. With the neurotic mom and typical fifties dad, bullies in school, and mishaps around every corner, this Christmas movie cannot be beat!
Elf - PG (2003)
My all-time favorite, Will Ferrell is the best human-turned-elf in this now-classic Christmas movie great for all families. When Buddy the Elf discovers he’s really a human, he travels to New York to find his real dad. What he discovers is nothing short of hilarious… and miraculous!
How the Grinch Stole Christmas - PG (2000)
Jim Carrey brings the Grinch to life! I remember being a kid and waiting forever for the Grinch to come on TV! His heart is still three sizes too small and the Whos in Whoville are still oddly joyful people despite the Grinch’s attempts to ruin Christmas.
The Santa Clause - PG (1994)
Tim Allen stars as Scott Calvin, a divorced man who accidentally kills Santa and is rewarded with the job of being Santa. When he starts growing a beard and craving milk and cookies, he realizes things are getting serious! Follow-up movies, The Santa Clause 2 (Rated G) and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (Rated G) would make for a full night of entertainment for the whole family!
The Search for Santa Paws - G (2010)
An elf, magical puppies (totally cute ones!) and two kids get together to save Santa who has lost his memory. Make it a night and watch Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups (also rated G), which just came out last year. These movies are sure to become fast classics! What’s not to love about adorable cute talking puppies?
And let’s not forget…
Home Alone - PG (1990)
Lovable Kevin (see who can even forget his name after all of these years?) gets left at home while his parents head to France for a family Christmas vacation and he’s got to defend the house from a couple of idiot burglars. A definite classic!
So gather up the family, start a fire, grab some blankets and make some hot chocolate! Choose a movie or two and make a night of it! Which movie would you choose first? Or do you have a favorite that’s not on this list?
