So here’s a little something every fashionista should understand: the difference between warm and cool colors. Don’t worry—it’s an easy fashion lesson. Here we go!

The short of it goes like this: warmer colors have more yellow in them, and cool colors have more blue in them. Essentially, it comes down to shades. You could put two pair of red shirts side by side, and one shade of red will seem warmer (because it has more yellow in it) and one will seem cooler (because it has more blue in it).

And yes, you could even have a “cool” yellow color and a “warm” blue color. Here’s a GREAT visual illustrating this concept perfectly.

So why does this even matter? Well, when you’re mixing and matching clothes, in addition to understanding the color wheel and what colors work together, you’ll also want to consider the warmness and coolness of the colors you’re looking at. The goal is to match warm colors with warm colors and cool colors with cool colors.

Make sense?

So which colors do you tend to gravitate towards, FPgirl? Warm or cool? (We think you look great either way!!!)
