Your Daughter’s Self-Esteem

I have been a huge fan of Dove and how their company views women for a long time. I’m sure I used their products before their famous campaign came along, but after seeing normal -sized women in their underwear being happy with their body shapes, that sealed the deal for me. I’ve been a dedicated Dove user ever since. They are doing something right.

Do you remember the campaign I’m talking about? Sure you do. I just love when a company goes the step further and recognizes something good. And Dove continues to do good. They are currently raising awareness in young women - building confidence and self-esteem in the future leaders of our country.

Did you know that one in six girls will quit an activity they love because of the way they look or feel about themselves? That’s horrible! It’s not the way to live. Your daughter might quit gymnastics because she doesn’t like how she looks in her leotard. Or maybe she doesn’t feel comfortable in her bathing and she’s an incredible swimmer but she tells you she wants to quit the swim team. Where do you think she learns that she doesn’t look good in these outfits?

Dove has these amazing self-esteem booklets that are great for parents, youth leaders, teachers that want to help children to become more self-confident.

These booklets are downloadable online for your daughters (and sons too - they have self-esteem issues also - I know, I have two of them!). The booklets cover ‘My Feelings,’ ‘My Image’ and ‘My Shell’ in clever ways to get your kids chatting about ways to be self-confident. They also include group activities, talking points, make-at-home beauty recipes and fantastic tips to help your tween or teen get through those difficult years. I really wish there was something out there like this when I was feeling less than confident at ages 11 and 12!

Here are two of the varieties to choose from, but there are others online for different ages as well:

Self-esteem discussion guide for mothers of girls aged 11-16

Self-esteem activity guide for youth leaders of girls aged 10-14

Thank you Dove, for being aware of everyone’s feelings and for realizing that we are all beautiful!
