Memorial Day is tomorrow, Monday 5/30!

What is Memorial Day? It’s a special time to remember those U.S. soldiers who have died in all wars over the years! The first Memorial Day was supposedly in 1868. Today, many people observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries & war memorials. Some people fly American flags at half-staff, while others simply thank those they know who have previously served in the military. An example? The National Memorial Day Concert happens at US Capital to celebrate those men & women who have given up their lives for our country!**

If you can’t make it to a memorial site, make this super fun & easy patriotic poppy flower pin to show your appreciation & wear around the town (or home)!

What you’ll need:

* Red tissue paper, scissors, a hole punch, pipe cleaner (for a stem)

Instructions:

1. Carefully use a pair of scissors to cut out (5) 3-inch circles from the tissue paper!

2. Place the circles on top of each other to create a pile. Don’t worry if the flowers don’t perfectly line up with one another.

3. With the hole punch, make two holes (close to each other) in the center of the pile.

4. Take your pipe cleaner & thread it up through one hole & back down through the second hole.

5. Twist the two ends together to secure the flowers on the “stem”.

6. Separate the layers of tissue paper & voila!

Use your flower as a lovely pin or just tie it to your wrist! No matter how you do it, those in the military will appreciate the time you took to remember their friends & fellow soldiers. Way to go!
