Green Treats for St. Patrick’s Day!

March 15, 2011

With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, it’s time to figure out some fun foods to prepare and be festive with the family! So Moms, do you want some interesting and easy recipes to make with the kids? Of course you do! An interesting way to make everything a part of St. Patrick’s Day is by adding food color! It’s everyday food with a twist! So, how do Green Pancakes & Limeade sound? (We know your kids will love both recipes!)

St. Patrick’s Day Pancakes:

What you’ll need: Pancake mix, green food color

Directions: Preheat your griddle! Make pancake mix as directed on the package. Pour the food color & mix until the batter has a consistent green coloring. Next, cook as directed! If you’re feeling ambitious, make pancakes in all the food colors; red, blue, green and yellow… then stack ’em up high!

St. Patrick’s Day Limeade:

What you need: 1 cup sugar, 6 cups of cold water, Juice from 12 freshly squeezed limes (will serve 8 glasses), a 1/2 gallon jug

Directions: Fill 6 cups of cold water in a 1/2 gallon jug. Mix in the sugar and lime juice. Add ice if you want to serve it chilled. Finally, add green food color if it isn’t green enough for you!

Where can one find liquid food coloring? Most grocery stores will have it in the baking goods aisle or in the spices section. You could also look at hobby shops or crafts stores! Of course, you could just tell the kids that it’s a “St. Patrick’s Day Miracle” and that the food simply turned green! Or enlist their help from the beginning & make a morning out of it!
