Academy Awards ’11: “And the Oscar goes to…”

February 28, 2011

Last night was the 83rd Academy Awards! And like every time around this year, the entire entertainment community (including producers, actors, and fans) came together in L.A. to celebrate a night of wonderful films!

As reported by The Academy, “the Oscars honor the previous year’s best motion picture achievements as defined by some of the most effective motion picture professionals. There are about 6,000 members who vote for the Oscars using ballots (which are kept totally secret until presenters open the envelopes & uncover the winners live on T.V.)!”

Although there are 25 categories (with up to five nominees in each group), here is a mini recap of the main awards!

Actor in a Leading Role: Colin Firth in “The King’s Speech”

Actor in a Supporting Role: Christian Bale in “The Fighter”

Actress in a Leading Role: Natalie Portman in “Black Swan”

Actress in a Supporting Role: Melissa Leo in “The Fighter”

Best Picture: “The King’s Speech” Iain Canning, Emile Sherman & Gareth Unwin (Producers)

And we can’t forget to mention the fabulous red carpet fashion! From sequins to bright & bold colors, every star dressed to the nines for this very important event! Some of the best dressed? One of our favorites was Sandra Bullock who presented the “Best Picture Award” in an absolutely stunning fire engine red Vera Wang gown! Amy Adams (a nominee for Best Supporting Role) wore a perfectly shimmery purple L’Wren Scott gown, complete with cap-sleeves & over $1,350,000 of Cartier jewelry! Wow!  Another one of our favs was Hilary Swank, who showed off her great shoulders with a silver sequined Gucci Première gown that had an amazing ombre feathered train!

Did you watch the show? What were your favorite gowns? Leave us a comment & fill us in!

I loved Amy Adams’ dress the most. It is really shiny and goes with Amy’s red hair! Nice pick for the perfect night!
