Hey FPgirls! We know you girls LOVE beauty: makeup, hair, nails, all of it. We got to talk with Winn Claybaugh recently and he gave us some awesome tips and advice! Winn is the dean and co-founder of Paul Mitchell Schools, where people can learn how to become beauty professionals – like hairstylists and makeup artists! Check out their awesome tips for Fall hair trends!

Here’s what Winn shared with us:

What do your students love about beauty school?

Beauty school offers all kinds of things for different types of people. Some people love being artistic and creative with hair and makeup. Some tell us they love being nice and making people feel beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. Many of our students love our schools because they feel like they fit in and belong.

What kinds of jobs can someone who’s interested in beauty dream about?

The opportunities are unlimited in the beauty industry! You could work “behind the chair” as a hairstylist, barber, skin care specialist, or makeup artist. You could work in movies, television, or theater. You could be part of the fashion industry, doing hair and makeup for magazines and fashion shows. You could own your own salon or spa, appear on stage as a platform artist or educator, or work in sales or education for a product manufacturer such as Paul Mitchell.

What are three hairstyles every girl should know how to do?

Braids (different styles), curls (the soft, beautiful Hollywood kind) and accessories (how to accessorize hair with soft silk scarves, hairpieces, chain accessories, etc).

Three beauty trends that are fab right now are:

Nail art, creative lashes, and crimping hair to create texture

What other advice do you have for FPgirl fashionistas?

You’ve probably met fashionistas who impressed you with their clothes, their hair, and their makeup. But then you got to know them and something heartbreaking happened: you discovered that they weren’t nice. Perhaps they had a mean attitude toward others. Maybe every other word out of their mouths was about how wonderful they were and how awful some other person was. From that point on, it really didn’t matter how pretty they looked on the outside. When you’re not nice, everything else goes right down the drain. You could attend a party wearing the perfect clothes and makeup—but with a nasty, judgmental attitude—and what would people think of you? “She’s not nice!” But attend the same party, wearing the same clothes and makeup—and smile as you introduce yourself to everyone and ask them questions about themselves—and you’ll be known as the cutest fashionista in town!

Thanks, Winn!! We agree; being nice makes you cool!
