Marketing Support Intern
FashionPlaytes has a unique opportunity for a Marketing Intern. We are seeking a candidate with a desire and ability to support us by coordinating projects, working on media requests, assisting with our social media strategy, executing email marketing campaigns, and general assistance. The ideal candidate enjoys and understands content creation and online communities. They should also have a passion and an educational background in marketing, public relations or communications and journalism.
Since we’re a small, ambitious and dynamic startup that is transforming how girls interact around fashion, you’ll have the opportunity to work with our marketing team within a web development environment to define campaigns in a game-changing business. This is a fun, hands-on, resume-building experience!
Responsibilities:
- Help research our consumer demographic – both kids and gift givers (parents, etc.)
- Assist Community Manager with focus group initiatives and surveys
- Create and curate unique content to earn feedback and increase community engagement.
- Help identify and coordinate on and offline marketing events such as contests, photoshoots, fashion shows, etc.
- Suggest, build and implement creative marketing strategies to build our customer base organically
- Recommend and help implement customer acquisition strategies in order to quantify costs
- Share ideas for building the FashionPlaytes brand and packaging
Qualifications:
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Initiative, flexibility and the skill to work independently
- Ability to write and communicate messages clearly and concisely with strong attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple projects under pressure and work effectively on a team
- Computer knowledge including Microsoft Office. Photoshop a plus.
- Familiarity with social media (Facebook,Twitter,Youtube,Pinterest, etc.)
- Experience with Wordpress and basic HTML is a plus.
Hours:
- Minimum of 24 hours/week required, during normal business hours. Ability to work extra hours during production crunches appreciated.
Technology
Ruby on Rails Developer
FashionPlaytes is seeking a web application developer with the experience and skills to take a leading role in helping us grow to the next level. We are building a cutting edge platform with Ruby on Rails, HTML5, eCommerce, gaming and more.
Looking for Experience in the Following:
- Solid Ruby on Rails
- Other programming languages, scripting or otherwise, would be helpful
- Strong HTML/CSS/Javascript experience. Must have used at least one JS library.
- Experience using JSON/Ajax.
- Database programming against MySQL or PostergreSQL
- Comfortable in a Linux or OSX development environment including shell scripts, and command line
- Amazon EC2 and S3 environments and tools
- Source control systems such as SVN and GIT
- Web and Mail server configuration and management a plus
- Networking and server security concepts and protocols a plus
- Experience working with public facing websites
- Good understanding of engineering process from design to production release

Front-end Developer
You’ll play a key role in developing an interactive eCommerce experience for tween girls. Working closely with a small team of engineers and designers, you will be primarily responsible for front-end development and client-side interaction using HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other related languages.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Write, manage, and maintain architecture of standards-compliant, scalable front-end code – including, but not limited to: HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, AJAX, and JSON
- Develop and maintain reusable code libraries
- Constantly optimize code to improve client-side site performance, search engine optimization, and cross-browser support
- Work with designers to rapidly develop prototypes to solicit user feedback
- Take user feedback and learning from usability sessions to develop an optimal experience
- Collaborate with designers, marketing teams, and other business stakeholders to use agile methodology to develop and deploy user-facing features and functionality
- Ensure that code has been self/co-reviewed with minimal bugs and that all requirements are met prior to user acceptance testing
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely fashion
About You:
- 3+ years experience writing standards-compliant code (by hand)
- Strong background in developing interactive web applications using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, and AJAX
- Experience working with server side technologies, such as Ruby on Rails, Python, or PHP a plus
- Experience identifying and implementing event tagging for analytics and similar web applications
- Experience working in an ecommerce environment a plus
- Knowledge of best practices for client-side optimization and responsive development, using graceful degradation or progressive enhancement, while maintaining cross-browser functionality
- Familiarity working with graphics technologies including programmatic parsing, manipulation and rendering; add’l technologies should include Adobe Creative Suite, SVG and ImageMagick
- Experience with Amazon EC2 and S3 environments and tools a plus
- Experience with source control systems such as SVN and GIT
- Good understanding of engineering process from design to production release
- Desire to actively collaborate with cross-functional teams to help drive innovation
- Desire to constantly challenge yourself and grow your skill set (since we’re a small team, we’re always trying to learn from each other and help out when possible)
- Experience working on tight timelines in a fast-paced environment
- Down to earth and fun to work with
