9 Tips to Go Green for Earth Day!
Earth Day is on Friday, April 22, 2011!

According to EarthDay.org, the point of this very special day is to get as many people as possible to acknowledge & fight for a healthier and more sustainable environment! Some of the issues that they want people to fight for? “Oil spills, polluting factories and power plants, raw sewage, toxic dumps, pesticides, freeways, the loss of wilderness, and the extinction of wildlife.” Everyone lives on Earth, so we might as well protect & take great care of it for as long as we can!
Here are some cool dates in the history of Earth Day:
April 22, 1970: The 1st Earth Day! The government finally received encouragement from both Republicans, Democrats, rich & poor & is prompted to form the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency & the Clean Air, Clean Water, & Endangered Species Acts.
April 22, 1990: “Earth Day went global [by] mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries & lifting environmental issues onto the world stage.” In 1990, large efforts to recycle first began as well.
April 22, 2000: 5,000 environmental organizations in over 184 countries came together to touch the lives of millions of people, especially with the use of the internet!

- Reuse plastic bags as small trashcan liners!
- Go paperless! Try reading your newspaper/magazines online.
- Don’t run the water when brushing your teeth.
- Try to use natural cleaners.
- Walk or ride your bike to get places!
- Use hair curlers instead of a curling iron.
- Use all of the nail polish in the bottle.
- Limit how long you’re in the shower!
- Use towels several times before washing!
