Tornado Relief: How You Can Help!
The tornado that recently hit Joplin, Missouri on May 22, 2011 was one of the most destructive tornadoes to hit the US in 50 years! Over 100 people lost their lives & more than 1,000 people were seriously injured. Two days ago, severe thunderstorms & a tornado struck Springfield, Massachusetts causing damage throughout the town & the loss of 4 lives! With such traumatic & life-changing natural disasters happening all around us, here’s a few ways you can help!

1. The Missouri State Emergency Management Agency provides details for how to donating & volunteering in order to help Missourians rebuild their lives. Check it out & get started today.
2. Donate to the American Red Cross! Since they’re providing shelter and giving out food & necessity kits to those who need it most, text “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make a $10 donation, or visit the website to donate, give blood &/or volunteer!
3. AmeriCares is another great organization that has been sending relief teams to Joplin. Donations can be made online or over the phone at 1-800-486-HELP. For immediate donations, text the word “CONVOY” to 50555 to give $10!
4. Get your family together to collect ready-to-eat non-perishable foods! You can even start a food collection at your own school by placing bins in front of every classroom! Check out the Food Bank in Western Massachusetts to see where to send food to those affected by the tornado in Springfield.
5. Send your love & support! It’s as simple as keeping the victims of these disasters in your hearts! Think about the families that have been affected & be thankful for the safety of your family & friends!
