Top Craft of Spring: the Flower Belt!

March 28, 2011

OMG. We are obsessed with this super easy-to-make flower belt! (A huge thanks to FamilyFun Magazine for the idea)! We actually love it so much that we can’t believe we hadn’t thought of it already! Here’s the bottom line: We’re always looking for some way to accessorize our clothes, right? Well, now you have a cute & totally Spring-appropriate option to add to any outfit! Follow the instructions below to make a flower belt that’s totally unique - just like YOU!

What you’ll need: Flower and leaf stencils (about 3 in. across), 15 ft. of yarn or leather cord, several sheets of colored craft foam, a pair of scissors, a hole punch & colorful beads!

How to make your awesome belt!

1. Take your flower or leaf stencil and trace a handful of flowers/leaves with a pencil (or pen) on the different colored craft foam! Carefully cut out the shapes. Next, use your hole punch & make 2 holes - a finger-width away from each other - in the center of the flower (so it’ll be easy to weave the string or cord through without tearing the foam).

2. Cut (3) 5 ft. long cords or strings. Next, carefully thread the cords - under & up through your first hole and back down through the second hole - in each shape! After you’re done threading, you can move the shapes wherever you want along the cords!

3. Want to make it extra fancy? Try braiding the string between each foam shape! Another option is to add more flowers with different knots/beads in between them to be ultra creative! To secure each end, tie several knots & voilà - you’re ready to go!
