Every year, there are new fashion trends that your girl seems to know about before you do… Girls are surrounded by different media outlets, and, of course, other girls who are advertising the “must haves” of the season.  Here are some helpful tips on fashion trends, in order to keep you in the loop and to know what your daughter means when she says, “I traded a dolphin for a dog today!”

-         Silly Bandz:  The “hottest new fashion accessory,” are popular not only among young children, but even with college students!  In case you have not been a victim to the Silly Bandz craze, Silly Bandz are colorful, silicon rubber bands that come in all different shapes whether it be sea creatures, sports, farm animals, alphabet letters, fantasy creatures, or many more!  The magic of Silly Bandz is that they do not lose their shape when you take them off your wrist.  One of their slogans, “Collect ‘em, Trade ‘em, Wear ‘em” is the perfect way to sum up their purpose.  Kids collect them as they are very inexpensive and are sold in large packs, they trade them at school with their friends, and, of course, they wear them- even without coordinating colors with their outfits!  Silly Bandz are the newest fashion phenomenon!

-         Uniqueness: Even though your daughter may feel it is important to have the latest shoes or tops, and to have the same shirt as six other girls in the class, you still want to remind her to be herself and to be unique.  You can generally find inexpensive yet fashionable looks that are not the same as generic mall brands, online.  FashionPlaytes, is not only fashionable but it is also entirely unique as your girls design their own custom outfits!

As school is almost out for the summer, we wanted to share some fun summer activities that your daughter can do with her friends.

-         Paint pottery: A rainy day is no reason to not have fun!  Take your daughter and some of her friends to a place where they can choose their own pottery, and then paint it!  It is a fun activity where the girls can get creative and paint something that they can use to decorate their room, or simply a pot that they can put trinkets in!

-         Make your own popsicles: This is a fun, cost saving and delicious activity for your girls or sons to enjoy!  These popsicles will not only cool them down, but they will also look cool. Thanks to Elise, we found directions and a recipe you could use to make a refreshing snack!

-         Have a field day in your yard: Get together a lot of classic games that your daughter can do with her friends.  Get sidewalk chalk to set up a hopscotch area, fill up some water balloons, set up a slip n’ slide (you know how much we love those), bring out those pogo sticks from years back, and maybe even a station where they can tie dye some white clothing (but make sure they don’t sneak in any expensive white items).

-         Summer camps: When you are looking into summer camps, make sure you talk to her about what she wants to do.  Whether she wants to go to a gymnastics camp, a soccer camp, or simply a day camp, make sure she wants to go and that she will learn something.  If you can, find a fun camp where she can express her creativity! Maybe even a fashion camp if she wants to keep creating and keep designing her own custom clothes!

Let us know fashion trends that your girl likes, and what activities she likes to do in the summer!
